To travel to the United States without a visa, it is necessary to present an Electronic Travel Authorization (ESTA). It's possible to apply for an ESTA online at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection ESTA website no later than 72 hours before departure. The authorization is valid for 2 years and allows multiple entries or until the alien: (1) obtains a new passport, including an emergency or temporary passport, (2) changes their name, (3) changes their gender, (4) changes their country of citizenship, or (5) wishes to change their answers to any of the yes or no questions on the ESTA application.

Citizens of countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program (ESTA) may enter the United States without a visa and stay in the country for up to 90 days. *Foreign nationals staying in the U.S. for over 30 days must register with the U.S. government. Failure to do so may result in penalties and prosecution. It is necessary to check the USCIS website to see if registration is required and how to complete it. Nota bene: visa holders who have completed fingerprinting and registration during the application process are exempt from this requirement.
