Self-employed visa — what you need to know
Designed for individuals aged 16 or older who wish to engage in self-employed activities in Spain. It is suitable for freelancers, IT specialists, and consultants. To obtain a self-employment / entrepreneur visa, the foreigner needs to gather the required documents and submit them to the Spanish consulate in the country of residence. The consulate forwards the application to the Immigration Authorities (Extranjería). If the decision is positive, a national 90-day visa is issued, allowing entry into Spain to obtain the TIE. Normally, the validity of the TIE coincides with the duration of the authorization, which is initially granted for 1 year.
The application is submitted by the entrepreneur or self-employed applicant through the Spanish consulate
Qualification and professional permits must be confirmed if the activity is regulated
The viability of the project and sufficient investment must be demonstrated
After entry, registration with the social security system and application for the TIE are required
Path to permanent residence after 5 years
No job offer or Spanish employer required
The permit can be renewed in Spain for 4 years
The renewed permit allows self-employment or employment in any sector and throughout the country
After renewing the status (one year later), family reunification becomes available; family members receive the right to work
