Residence and employment visa (less than 180 days) — what you need to know

Enables applicants over 16 years old to obtain a temporary residence visa in Spain for a period of more than 90 days but less than 180 days, and allows them to engage in gainful or professional activities for the benefit of others.

  • The process is initiated by the employer (authorization application submitted to the Delegación/Subdelegación del Gobierno)

  • Process: employer submits the authorization application → approval → applicant applies for a D visa at the consulate → entry → registration with Seguridad Social within 3 months → work

  • The minimum full-time salary in 2026 is €1,221 gross per month in 14 payments, or €17,094 gross per year

  • The authorization takes effect after the employee registers with the social security system
