Higher education visa — what you need to know
Issued to current student of accredited higher education programme, planing to study in the Netherlands at a university or institute of higher professional education.
ntended for full-time study at a university or a university of applied sciences (HBO)
The study programme must be accredited by NVAO or included in the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR)
The educational institution must be a recognised sponsor with the IND and submit the visa application on the student’s behalf
Proof of funds of at least €1,130.77 per month is required in 2026
The student may work as an employee for up to 16 hours per week during the academic year, or full-time during the summer
After completing higher education, the graduate may obtain an Orientation Year residence permit to look for work
A residence permit can be obtained for the student’s spouse or partner and minor children; family members are not granted the right to work
The residence permit remains valid for 3 months after the study programme ends, up to a maximum total validity of 5 years
