Visa validity period

The period during which the visa remains valid and can be used for entry into the country. The validity period or expiration date is indicated directly on the visa itself.

A multiple‑entry visa may be issued with a validity ranging from 6 months to 5 years if the foreign national demonstrates a proven need or justified intention to travel frequently, particularly for business or family reasons, and provides assurance that the visa will not be misused. This assurance is supported by evidence of proper use of any previously issued visas under the law, sufficient financial means in the country of origin, and a genuine intention to leave Montenegro before the requested visa expires.

The visa may be issued as a collective visa to a group of foreign nationals, with a validity not exceeding 30 days, and it may be affixed to a group passport.

    Duration of stay

The maximum duration for which one is permitted to stay in the country continuously from the date of entry.

The maximum permitted stay is 90 days within any 180‑day period, calculated from the date of the first entry. Each day of stay is counted as part of all the previous 180 days starting from the current date. During this 180-day period, the total duration of stay must not exceed 90 days, regardless of the number of entries.

  • Individually

    Extension of stay

The extension application must be submitted to the local police at the foreign national’s place of stay, in the required form, before the current visa expires.

  • single-entry

The ability to enter and exit the country an unlimited number of times, unless otherwise specified, within the visa's validity period.

    Number of entries

A parameter specifying the number of times the visa holder can enter the country during its validity period. Visas can be single-entry, multiple-entry, or with a specified number of entries.

The applicant specifies the required number of entries on the visa application; however, consulates make a decision, which may vary depending on provided documentary evidence and other factors. A visa may be issued for single, double, or multiple entries.
