EU Blue Card — what you need to know
Allows working in Italy as a highly skilled professional under the EU Blue Card program. The Blue Card is a work permit granted beyond the annual government quotas, designed for highly skilled foreign professionals who have received a job offer in Italy.
A job offer or contract for at least 6 months
A higher education qualification or 5 years of experience
For IT professionals: 3 years of experience within the past 7 years
The process is initiated by the employer (obtaining the Nulla Osta)
Salary — from €36,278.51 gross per year
A check of the Italian labour market is usually conducted prior to submission
Family members can relocate with the main applicant and are allowed to work
The permit is not cancelled immediately if employment is lost
Relocation for work to another EU country after 12 months
Eligibility for long-term residence after 5 years of legal residence
Permitted to pursue self‑employed activities concurrently
