IT residence permit for employees — what you need to know
The IT residence permit is issued to an alien immigrant worker employed in the field of information technology and holding the right to work granted by the LEPL – State Employment Support Agency. An application for the IT residence permit must be submitted to the Public Service Development Agency prior to the expiry of the applicant's lawful stay in Georgia. The permit cannot be issued on the basis of a category C ordinary visa.
Employment with a local employer registered in Georgia
Work experience or professional activity in IT – at least 2 years
IT income over 12 months – at least US$25,000 (in GEL equivalent for 2026)
Procedure: obtain work authorisation → D1 visa → entry into Georgia → obtain residence permit
The work permit application is initiated by the employer
Residence permit: issued for 3 years, renewable every 3 years, total stay up to 12 years
Relocation of family members is possible after the main residence permit has been issued
Right to permanent residence after 10 years of residence
It is possible to transfer to another category of residence permit
