Allows entry to the Faroe Islands for a maximum of 90 days in any 180-day period for visiting friends or family. Processed by the Danish Immigration Service via Danish diplomatic missions (a Schengen visa or Danish residence permit alone is not valid for the Faroe Islands)​. The applicant is expected to provide an invitation from a hosting family member or friend, proof of accommodation, financial means. If the applicant needs a visa to enter the Faroe Islands or Greenland, they will most likely also need a Schengen visa, since most travel to these two countries goes through a Schengen country, such as Denmark.

The primary characteristics that define the conditions for obtaining and using a visa. These conditions may vary depending on the individual circumstances of the applicant and the decision of the immigration authorities of the country.

    Visa validity period

    The period during which the visa remains valid and can be used for entry into the country. The validity period or expiration date is indicated directly on the visa itself.

    <p>The consular authorities make a decision on the visa validity period based on the documentary evidence provided by the applicant, and it does not directly depend on the applicant.</p>

  • 3 months

    Duration of stay

    The maximum duration for which one is permitted to stay in the country continuously from the date of entry.

    <p>The stay period for a specific visa is determined by the consulate depending on the individual situation of the applicant and documentary evidence of the purpose of the visit. The maximum permitted stay is up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Each day of stay is counted as part of all the previous 180 days starting from the current date. During this 180 day period, the total duration of stay must not exceed 90, regardless of the number of entries.</p>

  • 6 months

    Extension of stay

    The extension of the maximum duration of stay in the country initially permitted by the visa, subject to approval by the immigration authorities. This is typically processed within the country without the need for departure.

    <p>Extensions are granted only under exceptional circumstances, such as unforeseen events preventing departure. The maximum total stay should not exceed 180 days. An application to extend the visa must be submitted to the police on the Faroe Islands.</p>

    Consular fee

Mandatory

The essential minimum documents required for a visa application, such as a passport or visa application form. These are necessary regardless of the location, method, or conditions of the application.

  • Passport

    Issued less than 10 years ago, with a validity period exceeding the duration of the visa by at least three months and with at least two blank pages.

  • Photograph

    Must be recent (taken within the last 6 months), in color, clear, and sized 35x45mm. The face should occupy 70-80% of the image, printed on high-quality, matte paper with a plain, light background. Hair must not cover the eyes or eyebrows. Headwear is not permitted unless worn for religious or medical reasons, and the full face must remain visible.

  • Visa application form

    Official Schengen visa application form, completely filled and signed by the applicant.

Supporting

Documents that specify, substantiate, and confirm the purpose of the visit, as well as provide necessary information about the applicant and their future activities in the country.

  • Proof of accommodation

    Confirmed hotel booking, rental contract, proof of residential property or staying with a private host covering the whole duration of the stay.

  • Proof of financial means

    Recent bank statement for the last 3 months or any other proof of income. This document must demonstrate sufficient funds to support oneself for the entire stay and for return expenses. In cases of sponsorship by a host, an invitation letter with financial commitments and proof of the sponsor's income must also be provided.

  • Invitation letter

    The invitation from the host, either in the form of a printed invitation or an invitation ID, if the host has submitted an online invitation.

  • Proof of transportation

    Itinerary (reservation only) - if the applicant is traveling to several countries, proof of all flight reservations, train itinerary or car rental.

Documents required vary depending on individual circumstances, specific visa conditions, the place, and the method of application.

  • Current immigration or residence status

    National passport or ID card; residence permit or other document confirming the right to legally reside in the country of residence, if it differs from the one stated in the applicant's passport.

  • Documents for minor children

    Birth certificate, adoption certificate, or guardianship certificate evidencing parental or guardianship rights; certified power of attorney or permission from parents or legal guardians for minors traveling abroad.

  • Receipt of fee payment

    Confirmation of the visa application processing fee.

  • Proof of return

    Documents proving that applicant will return to the country of residence after the trip, e.g., an employment contract or education proof or children's school attendance proof or immovable property proof. Business owners must provide an original of the commercial registry and tax card.

*Foreign official documents must be apostilled and legalized in accordance with the regulations of the country whose consular or diplomatic mission they are being submitted to. Additionally, they must be accompanied by a certified translation into the official language of that country or into English, unless otherwise specified by the mission's requirements.
