Emergency visa at the border — what you need to know
Issued at the borders for transit or short stay up to 15 days. May be granted by way of derogation (only in cases of emergency, including seafarers in transit, sign-on or de-berthing, provided that: (a) the applicant fulfils the conditions of the Schengen Borders Code; (b) the applicant has not been able to apply for a visa in advance and, if necessary, submits supporting documents proving unforeseeable and compelling reasons for entry; and (c) the applicant’s return to their country of origin or residence or transit through states other than those fully implementing the Schengen acquis.
