Visa overview
The EU Blue Card is a residence permit that allows highly qualified workers from countries outside the EU and the European Economic Area (EEA) to live and work in the Republic of Cyprus and other EU member states, with the exception of the Kingdom of Denmark and Ireland. The minimum gross annual salary required for the issuance of an EU Blue Card in the Republic of Cyprus is set at €43,632. For travelling to Cyprus entry permit is required.

Time frames and cost
The primary characteristics that define the conditions for obtaining and using a visa. These conditions may vary depending on the individual circumstances of the applicant and the decision of the immigration authorities of the country.

Visa validity period
The period during which the visa remains valid and can be used for entry into the country. The validity period or expiration date is indicated directly on the visa itself.
<p>The period of validity of the EU Blue Card should be at least 24 months and does not exceed 36 months. However, where the duration of the employment contract is shorter, the EU Blue Card is issued for at least the duration of the work contract plus 3 months, subject to a maximum of 24 months.</p>

Duration of stay
The maximum duration for which one is permitted to stay in the country continuously from the date of entry.
<p>The duration of the permit depends on the duration of the employment contract and can be up to three consecutive years.</p>

Extension of stay
The extension of the maximum duration of stay in the country initially permitted by the visa, subject to approval by the immigration authorities. This is typically processed within the country without the need for departure.

The period during which the immigration authorities review the application and make a decision regarding the issuance of the visa. Only business days are counted, excluding weekends and public holidays.
<p>The application for residence permit must be submitted within the first 7 days of entry to Cyprus. Under EU rules, a Blue Card application should be processed within 90 days from the date of submission. In Cyprus, however, the official guidance allows up to four months for the Civil Registry and Migration Department to examine the application. </p>

Documents

Mandatory

Passport
Issued less than 10 years ago, with a validity period exceeding the duration of the visa by at least three months and with at least two blank pages.
Photograph
Must be recent (taken within the last 6 months), in color, clear, and sized 35x45mm. The face should occupy 70-80% of the image, printed on high-quality, matte paper with a plain, light background. Hair must not cover the eyes or eyebrows. Headwear is not permitted unless worn for religious or medical reasons, and the full face must remain visible.

Official visa application form, completely filled and signed by the applicant.
Supporting
Documents that specify, substantiate, and confirm the purpose of the visit, as well as provide necessary information about the applicant and their future activities in the country.
Proof of financial means
Recent bank statement for the last three months or any other proof of income. This document must demonstrate sufficient funds to support oneself for the entire stay and for return expenses. In cases of sponsorship by a host, an invitation letter with financial commitments and proof of the sponsor's income must also be provided.
Proof of accommodation
Confirmed hotel booking, rental contract, proof of residential property or staying with a private host covering the whole duration of the stay.
Proof of employment
The applicant must have a valid job offer or employment contract for at least six months in one of the designated highly skilled sectors: information and communication technologies (ICT), pharmaceutical research, or shipping (excluding ship captains and crew).
Permission to hire foreigners
Approval from the Department of Labour allowing the employer to employ third-country nationals.
Employer ID
Identity card copy of the employer (if a natural person).
Education proof
Diplomas and certificates of higher education and qualifications, or documents confirming the required work experience. Applicants must have a university degree or have at least three years of relevant professional experience in the last seven years.
Certificate of no criminal record
Certificate of no criminal record from the country of origin or residence (no older than six months).
Additional
Documents required vary depending on individual circumstances, specific visa conditions, the place, and the method of application.
Current immigration or residence status
National passport or ID card; residence permit or other document confirming the right to legally reside in the country of residence, if it differs from the one stated in the applicant's passport.
Receipt of fee payment
Confirmation of the visa application processing fee.
Medical documents
Depending on the purpose of visit may be required: HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C blood tests and report of x-ray for Tuberculosis.

Additionally, they must be accompanied by a certified translation into the official language of that country or into English, unless otherwise specified by the mission's requirements.
