Work visa — what you need to know
Issued for foreigners to temporarily stay and work in Croatia. Allows applicants to work only in positions for which they have been granted a stay and work permit or a work registration certificate, and exclusively with those employers with which they have entered into employment.
The procedure is started by the employer
Application procedure: labour market test → stay and work permit → D visa → entry into Croatia → biometric card collection
No labour market test is required for professions included in the official shortage list
Family reunification — after 2 years of continuous residence, minor children join immediately
Family members must obtain a separate work permit
In case of job loss – 3 months to find a new employer
No separate work permit is required
Change of employer — after 6 months, with approval from HZZ (Croatian Employment Service)
Long-term residence permit — after 5 years of continuous residence in Croatia
