Issued for the purpose of carrying out volunteer services with public or private non-profit entities such as NGOs, charities etc., or with organisations linked to foreign governments, without employment relationship and no remuneration of any kind. For volunteer services with duration of up to 90 days, the applicant must request a Visitor Visa (VIVIS).

The primary characteristics that define the conditions for obtaining and using a visa. These conditions may vary depending on the individual circumstances of the applicant and the decision of the immigration authorities of the country.

  • 1 year

    Visa validity period

    The period during which the visa remains valid and can be used for entry into the country. The validity period or expiration date is indicated directly on the visa itself.

    <p><span data-sheets-root="1">Validity period is up to 1 year counted from the date of issue of the visa. The validity period of the temporary visa does not coincide with the period of the residence permit.</span></p>

  • 3 months

    Duration of stay

    The maximum duration for which one is permitted to stay in the country continuously from the date of entry.

    <p><span data-sheets-root="1">Within 90 days of arrival in Brazil, bearers of visas must register with the Brazilian Immigration authorities (Pol&iacute;cia Federal &ndash; DPMAF) in the place where the applicant intends to take up residence. Residence authorization (once in Brazil only) is given by the Federal Police Department (DPMAF), accordingly to the purpose of the stay.</span></p>

    Extension of stay

    The extension of the maximum duration of stay in the country initially permitted by the visa, subject to approval by the immigration authorities. This is typically processed within the country without the need for departure.

    Number of entries

    A parameter specifying the number of times the visa holder can enter the country during its validity period. Visas can be single-entry, multiple-entry, or with a specified number of entries.

    Processing time

    <p><span data-sheets-root="1">Processing takes up to 5 working days. Some visas may require additional procedures and consultations, which will, therefore, increase the processing time. It is recommended to apply for a visa 3 moths before the intended trip.</span></p>

    Consular fee

    A fee levied for the processing and evaluation of an application. This charge is non-refundable under any circumstances. In certain instances, the payment of supplementary fees may be required.

    <p>Consular fee is the official charge for processing a visa application by an embassy or consulate of the country and does not include any additional payments that may be required depending on the place and method of submission, such as visa center fees, the cost of permits or other documents, postal or courier delivery, and others.</p>

Documents

A list of documents required for visa application. The exact list depends on the chosen visa type, the purpose of the visit, and the individual conditions of the applicant.

Mandatory

The essential minimum documents required for a visa application, such as a passport or visa application form. These are necessary regardless of the location, method, or conditions of the application.

  • Passport

    A valid passport with a validity period exceeding 6 months and with at least two blank pages.

  • Photograph

    Must be recent (taken within the last 6 months), in color, clear, and sized 35x45mm. The face should occupy 70-80% of the image, printed on high-quality, matte paper with a plain, light background. Hair must not cover the eyes or eyebrows. Headwear is not permitted unless worn for religious or medical reasons, and the full face must remain visible.

  • Visa application form

    Fully filled online, printed and signed visa application form.

  • Full Birth certificate

    The name of the parents must be indicated. Birth certificates from outside the Consulate's jurisdiction (includes those issued in other countries) must be apostilled.

  • Police сlearance

    Valid, apostilled original police record from a home country. Applicants who have lived in other/multiple countries within the last 12 months must provide a police record from each of those countries. They must also be duly apostilled or legalized by the respective Brazilian consular authority with jurisdiction over these countries, and translated by a sworn translator, if necessary.

Documents that specify, substantiate, and confirm the purpose of the visit, as well as provide necessary information about the applicant and their future activities in the country.

  • Travel itinerary

    Online bookings, airline reservations and travel agency itineraries are accepted and must show intended dates and ports of entry and exit from Brazil.

  • Invitation letter

    The invitation letter must be printed on official letterhead of the entity and contain the following information: a) The applicant's full personal details; b) Details of the entity and person in charge in Brazil (full name, telephone, e-mail etc.); c) Invitation for the provision of services as a volunteer. Please note: the signature on the invitation letter must be certified by a notary ("tabelião").

  • Ato constitutivo / estatuto social

    Certified copy of the entity's articles of incorporation and association. The entity must be duly registered with the competent Brazilian authority.

  • Conselho de Assistência Social

    Up-to-date proof of registration with the respective Social Welfare Council. If applicable. Otherwise, a certificate attesting the entity's qualification as a charitable organisation (“Organização de Sociedade Civil de Interesse Público - Oscip), issued by the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security.

  • Cover letter

    Letter from the entity in Brazil containing details about place(s) and type of activity. The document must be printed on official letterhead of the entity and contain the following information: a) The applicant's full personal details; b) Purpose of the trip and intended length of stay – include detailed description of the activities to be carried out by the volunteer; c) Indication of the place(s) where the activities will be developed. Please note: the signature on the letter must be certified by a notary ("tabelião").

  • Term of Commitment (financial)

    Declaration, signed by the entity, stating that it takes full responsibility for the volunteer’s maintenance in Brazil during the entire stay, and for his/her future return to the country of origin. Please note: the signature on the undertaking must be certified by a notary ("tabelião").

  • Term of Commitment (health)

    Declaration, signed by the entity, stating that it takes full responsibility for the volunteer’s medical care / hospital expenses in Brazil during the entire stay. Please note: the signature on the undertaking must be certified by a notary (“tabelião”).

  • Proof of professional experience / CV

    Proof of professional experience or qualification compatible with the activities to be developed. Only required if the activities the volunteer will carry out demand specialised knowledge and experience (e.g. nursing, child / elderly care etc.). Please note: the document must be legalised or apostilled by the competent authority in the issuing country. If no special qualification is required, the applicant must submit his/her curriculum vitae (this document does not have to be legalised).

  • Evidence that the entity in Brazil is fully and regularly operational

    E.g.: certificate issued by the city Council (“Prefeitura”) in Brazil.

Additional

Documents required vary depending on individual circumstances, specific visa conditions, the place, and the method of application.

  • Current immigration or residence status

    National passport or ID card; residence permit or other document confirming the right to legally reside in the country of residence, if it differs from the one stated in the applicant's passport.

*Foreign official documents must be apostilled and legalized in accordance with the regulations of the country whose consular or diplomatic mission they are being submitted to. Additionally, they must be accompanied by a certified translation into the official language of that country or into English, unless otherwise specified by the mission's requirements.
