Issued at the airport only to those traveling with pre-approved letters and only in urgent situations (no Vietnamese mission in the departure country; transit through multiple countries; organized tour by Vietnamese agency; seamen transfer; relative’s funeral or seriously ill relative; emergencies or other special missions by request of Vietnamese authorities). Visa on arrival is not a separate type of visa, but only a way to get an already agreed visa at the airport.

Visa validity period
The period during which the visa remains valid and can be used for entry into the country. The validity period or expiration date is indicated directly on the visa itself.
The visa is issued at the airport on the basis of a letter of approval from the Immigration Department of Vietnam. The validity period is usually 30-90 days.

Duration of stay
The maximum duration for which one is permitted to stay in the country continuously from the date of entry.
The duration of stay depends on the visa category and the duration of the visit agreed upon by the Immigration Department.
Individually
Extension of stay
The extension of the maximum duration of stay in the country initially permitted by the visa, subject to approval by the immigration authorities. This is typically processed within the country without the need for departure.
The request is submitted through the inviting party (sponsor).
single-entry
The possibility of entering the country only once during the visa's validity period. After departure from the country with such a visa, re-entry is not possible, even if the visa's validity period has not yet expired.
multiple-entry
The ability to enter and exit the country an unlimited number of times, unless otherwise specified, within the visa's validity period.
Number of entries
A parameter specifying the number of times the visa holder can enter the country during its validity period. Visas can be single-entry, multiple-entry, or with a specified number of entries.
A visa can be issued for a length and the number of entries not exceeding that indicated in the visa approval by the competent authority of Vietnam.

Processing time
The period during which the immigration authorities review the application and make a decision regarding the issuance of the visa. Only business days are counted, excluding weekends and public holidays.
Visa stamping at airport: 15–30 minutes (up to 1–2 hours during peak season (Sept-March). Approval letter: 1–2 working days (or 2–3 hours for urgent cases).

Consular fee
A fee levied for the processing and evaluation of an application. This charge is non-refundable under any circumstances. In certain instances, the payment of supplementary fees may be required.
Visa stamping fee at Vietnam airport is paid in cash only. Approval letter fee (varies depending on service provider) 20-60 USD. Fees may be waived or vary depending on the applicant's nationality, marital status, age, and specific purpose of the visit. The consular fee is the official charge for processing an application by an embassy or consulate and does not include additional payments, such as fees for visa centers, permits or other documents, or postal or courier delivery.
