Description of the visa, its purpose, conditions, peculiarities of issuance, and guidelines for utilization.
Parents of U.S. citizens who are at least 21 years old can apply for the IR5 visa to immigrate and live permanently in the U.S. This visa allows parents to live with their children in the U.S. The IR5 visa provides access to healthcare, the ability to work, and eligibility for U.S. citizenship after five years of residency.
The primary characteristics that define the conditions for obtaining and using a visa. These conditions may vary depending on the individual circumstances of the applicant and the decision of the immigration authorities of the country.
from 1 day to 6 months
Validity period
The period during which the visa remains valid and can be used for entry into the country. The validity period or expiration date is indicated directly on the visa itself.
The validity of an immigrant visa is the length of time the visa holder can enter the country. An immigrant visa is generally valid for 6 months from the date of issuance, unless the medical examination expires earlier, which may make the visa valid for less than 6 months. The medical examination must be completed prior to the immigrant visa interview by physicians approved by the U.S. Embassy. If the applicant is unable to travel to the United States before the visa expires, they should return the visa (after it expires) to the Immigrant Visa Office with a cover letter explaining why they were unable to travel. The case will be reviewed by a consular officer, and if the applicant can prove that the reason for the failure to travel was due to circumstances beyond their control, the alien will be issued a new visa.
Unlimited
Length of stay
The maximum duration for which one is permitted to stay in the country continuously from the date of entry.
Upon arrival in the United States with an immigrant visa, the applicant is immediately granted permanent resident status, which means an indefinite stay without time restrictions. The visa becomes a temporary certificate for crossing the border (if necessary to leave and return) until you receive a physical "green card" in your hands, which comes to the American address specified when applying for the visa. Immigrant visas serve only as a stepping stone to permanent residence. They do not exist outside the process of obtaining permanent residence status and do not in themselves grant the right to live in the United States; without the subsequent receipt of a "green card", they lose their main value as a document ensuring long-term residence in the country.
Not applicable
Extension of stay
The extension of the maximum duration of stay in the country initially permitted by the visa, subject to approval by the immigration authorities. This is typically processed within the country without the need for departure.
Extension is not provided, since the immigrant visa is only a temporary certificate for crossing the border until the moment of receiving a physical "green card" in hand.
single-entry
The possibility of entering the country only once during the visa's validity period. After departure from the country with such a visa, re-entry is not possible, even if the visa's validity period has not yet expired.
Number of entries
A parameter specifying the number of times the visa holder can enter the country during its validity period. Visas can be single-entry, multiple-entry, or with a specified number of entries.
A US immigrant visa allows one entry. Upon arrival in the US, the visa holder is immediately granted permanent resident status.
from 1 year to 1 year 5 months 25 days

Processing times may vary depending on various factors, such as the applicant's country of origin, the workload of USCIS and the National Visa Center (NVC), and possible delays in processing documents or scheduling interviews. Typically, this visa can take between one year and one and a half years to process. However, this period may be extended in certain cases, especially when additional documents are required from the applicant.
