Visa overview
Description of the visa, its purpose, conditions, peculiarities of issuance, and guidelines for utilization.
Issued to a child of a legal resident or citizen of Sweden, including adopted child and child born in Sweden. The application must be made by a parent or other adult who has the legal right to represent the child. Requirements about the accommodation, finances, are applied to the hosting adult. The social and emotional dependence of an adult and a child on each other can also be checked.

from 1 year to 2 years
Validity period
The period during which the visa remains valid and can be used for entry into the country. The validity period or expiration date is indicated directly on the visa itself.
The temporary residence permit allows entry and stay in Sweden for more than 1 year. The Swedish Migration Agency decides the length of stay based on evidence provided. Citizens of countries that require an entry visa must collect a temporary residence permit card at the embassy and travel with it and a passport; visa-free nationals can enter with a passport and decision copy, but obliged to visit the Swedish Migration Agency upon arrival.

Length of stay
The maximum duration for which one is permitted to stay in the country continuously from the date of entry.
Family reunification residence permit is granted for a maximum of 2 years, but never for longer than the applicants` passport is valid. If the applicant is granted a residence permit for more than 1 year, they should register in Sweden’s population register and get a Swedish personal identity number.

Extension of stay
The extension of the maximum duration of stay in the country initially permitted by the visa, subject to approval by the immigration authorities. This is typically processed within the country without the need for departure.
Can be extended. After 3 years it is possible to apply for a permanent residence permit.
multiple-entry
The ability to enter and exit the country an unlimited number of times, unless otherwise specified, within the visa's validity period.
Number of entries
A parameter specifying the number of times the visa holder can enter the country during its validity period. Visas can be single-entry, multiple-entry, or with a specified number of entries.

Processing time
The period during which the immigration authorities review the application and make a decision regarding the issuance of the visa. Only business days are counted, excluding weekends and public holidays.
The waiting time is approximate and is based on the time frame for reviewing similar applications over the past 12 months.The length of the review is affected by both the workload of the migration service and the need for additional verification of documents or an incomplete package of documents provided by the applicant.

Consular fee
A fee levied for the processing and evaluation of an application. This charge is non-refundable under any circumstances. In certain instances, the payment of supplementary fees may be required.
Visa fees are waived for the following categories of the applicants: -family members of EU/EEA citizens. In this context, Swedes do not count as EU citizens; -EU/EEA citizens who are applying for a residence permit; -Swiss citizens and their family members; -Japanese citizens; -Husbands, wives, cohabiting partners, registered partners and unmarried children under the age of 18 who are applying for a residence permit to live with a family member who has been granted a residence permit in Sweden due to their need for protection or exceptionally distressing circumstances. The consular fee is the official charge for processing a visa and a residence permit application at the embassy, consulate or immigration office in Sweden and does not include additional charges that may be incurred depending on where and how the application is submitted, such as fees at visa centers, costs of permits or documents, postage or courier services, etc.

Passport
Issued less than 10 years ago, with a validity period exceeding the duration of the visa by at least three months and with at least two blank pages.
Documents that specify, substantiate, and confirm the purpose of the visit, as well as provide necessary information about the applicant and their future activities in the country.
Proof of family ties
Marriage certificate, proof of living together (if partnership), birth certificate, documentation of custody, documentation of adoption. Other documents proving the relationship (if necessary).
Proof of dependence
In case of reunification with another relative in Sweden. Certificate(s) showing that the applicant and their relative in Sweden are related to each other and dependent on each other and find it difficult to live apart. Document(s) showing that the applicant and their relative lived together immediately before they moved to Sweden.
Proof of financial means (from the family member)
Employment contract or another proof of employment. Income proof such as payslips, pension decision, compensations etc.
Proof of accommodation (from the family member)
Copy of rental contract, a rent notice for the last month’s rent. If the person in Sweden owns their home - a copy of the purchase contract or another transfer document stating that they own the home. If the number of rooms is not stated in the document, should be attached a floor plan, housing specification, or similar document. If the person in Sweden lives in a house or detached house, they must submit documents showing its operating costs.
Sole custody decision
If the parent has sole custody of the child, must be attached the proof of this decision. If the other parent is deceased a death certificate must be submitted.
Consent for the child to settle in Sweden
If the child has 2 parents or legal guardians but only 1 of them lives in Sweden, a statement of consent from the other parent or legal guardian. Plus a copy of the other legal guardian’s passport or other identity document.
Adoption documents
Certificate from an authorised adoption agency. The Social Welfare Board’s approval of the adoption. Document showing that the adoption case is being handled, or that a decision has been made, in accordance with The Hague Convention, this document must state that the child may reside or settle in Sweden (if the adoption is mediated in accordance with The Hague Convention). Approval from the Family Law and Parental Support Authority (MFoF), (if the application concerns an individual adoption mediated in accordance with The Hague Convention).
Documents required vary depending on individual circumstances, specific visa conditions, the place, and the method of application.
Current immigration or residence status
National passport or ID card; residence permit or other document confirming the right to legally reside in the country of residence, if it differs from the one stated in the applicant's passport.
Documents for minor children
Birth certificate, adoption certificate, or guardianship certificate evidencing parental or guardianship rights; certified power of attorney or permission from parents or legal guardians for minors traveling abroad.
Power of attorney
A representative can apply, if the applicant grants them power of attorney. In that case, the person who applies must attach a copy of the power of attorney to the application.
*Foreign official documents must be apostilled and legalized in accordance with the regulations of the country whose consular or diplomatic mission they are being submitted to. Additionally, they must be accompanied by a certified translation into the official language of that country or into English, unless otherwise specified by the mission's requirements.
