Visa overview
Description of the visa, its purpose, conditions, peculiarities of issuance, and guidelines for utilization.
For overseas Koreans with a foreign nationality, who is currently a member of National Assembly, or has worked for 5 years or more at a government office/enterprise.
The primary characteristics that define the conditions for obtaining and using a visa. These conditions may vary depending on the individual circumstances of the applicant and the decision of the immigration authorities of the country.
5 years
Validity period
The period during which the visa remains valid and can be used for entry into the country. The validity period or expiration date is indicated directly on the visa itself.
Valid for 5 years from the date of issuance. The entry with visa permitted within the period of its validity, i.e. within 5 years.
3 years
Length of stay
The maximum duration for which one is permitted to stay in the country continuously from the date of entry.
Usually the maximum permitted stay is up to 1-3 years. The permitted stay depends on the applicant's nationality, marital status, age, and specific purpose of the visit.
Individually
Extension of stay
The extension of the maximum duration of stay in the country initially permitted by the visa, subject to approval by the immigration authorities. This is typically processed within the country without the need for departure.
The visa may be extended based on the individual circumstances of the applicant.
single-entry
The possibility of entering the country only once during the visa's validity period. After departure from the country with such a visa, re-entry is not possible, even if the visa's validity period has not yet expired.
Double-entry
The ability to enter the country only twice during the visa's validity period. This is typically used for transit visas and when multiple entries are required within a short timeframe, such as during travel to multiple countries.
multiple-entry
The ability to enter and exit the country an unlimited number of times, unless otherwise specified, within the visa's validity period.
Number of entries
A parameter specifying the number of times the visa holder can enter the country during its validity period. Visas can be single-entry, multiple-entry, or with a specified number of entries.
The option of the visa type depends on the applicant's nationality or national agreements between South Korea and the foreigner's country of nationality. However Consulate General of the Republic of Korea reserves the right to grant Multiple/Single Entry Visa to the applicants based on their discretion.

Processing time
The period during which the immigration authorities review the application and make a decision regarding the issuance of the visa. Only business days are counted, excluding weekends and public holidays.
Visas are usually processed between 4 days and 4 weeks, depending on the country of submission and the individual case.

Consular fee
A fee levied for the processing and evaluation of an application. This charge is non-refundable under any circumstances. In certain instances, the payment of supplementary fees may be required.
Despite the standard visa fee regulations, fees may be waived or differently applied.

Passport
Issued less than 10 years ago, with a validity period of at least 6 months from the end of the trip. Scanned image files of passport pages must also be provided.

Photograph
Digital photograph in natural colour, size 3.5cm x 4.5cm.
Documents that specify, substantiate, and confirm the purpose of the visit, as well as provide necessary information about the applicant and their future activities in the country.
Documents confirming the status of a civil servant
Certificate from the place of work or other official documents confirming the current or previous status of a civil servant.
Recommendation letter
Letter from the relevant government agency confirming work experience and recommendations for obtaining a visa.
Documents required vary depending on individual circumstances, specific visa conditions, the place, and the method of application.
Fee payment
Confirmation of the visa application processing fee.
Documents for minor children
Birth certificate, adoption certificate, or guardianship certificate evidencing parental or guardianship rights; certified power of attorney or permission from parents or legal guardians for minors travelling abroad.
Proof of nationality
For applicants of the 1st generation (born before August 15, 1945) - birth certificate. For 2nd generation applicants (first generation children) - birth certificate of the applicant and birth certificate of one of the parents or death certificate. For 3rd generation applicants (first generation grandchildren) - birth certificate of the applicant, birth certificate of one of the parents and birth certificate of the grandparent or death certificate. For 4th generation applicants (first generation great-grandchildren) - birth certificate of the applicant, birth certificate of one of the parents, birth certificate of the grandparent and birth certificate of the great-grandparent or death certificate. For all documents - original + certified notarized copy with apostille).
Proof of Korean language proficiency
If applicable. Official test with results.
Criminal record certificate
Officially verified criminal background check from applicant's home country.
Criminal record certificate in third country
If applicable. An officially verified third country criminal background check.
Tuberculosis test result
Issued within 6 months from the date of visa application. Applicable to certain applicants.
Current immigration or residence status
National passport or ID card; residence permit or other document confirming the right to legally reside in the country of residence, if it differs from the one stated in the applicant's passport.
*Foreign official documents must be apostilled and legalized in accordance with the regulations of the country whose consular or diplomatic mission they are being submitted to. Additionally, they must be accompanied by a certified translation into the official language of that country or into English, unless otherwise specified by the mission's requirements.
**Prior to submitting the documents, it is strongly advised to verify the specific procedures and requirements with the relevant mission.
The minimum criteria that each visa applicant must meet. If these criteria are not met, justifications and convincing evidence of intent to visit the country must be provided.
Have not record of criminal offence such as overstay
Have not been denied a Korean visa within 1 year prior to the date of entry
Have not been denied entry into Korea in the past 3 years preceding the date of entry
Have not been fined more than 5 million KRW or received an exit or deportation order for violation of law such as illegal stay
Have not been posing a risk of harming the safety, order, public welfare, or other interests of the Republic of Korea

Category code
