Description of the visa, its purpose, conditions, peculiarities of issuance, and guidelines for utilization.
Issued to workers from approved source countries/regions working in the construction, manufacturing, marine shipyard, process or services sector.
The primary characteristics that define the conditions for obtaining and using a visa. These conditions may vary depending on the individual circumstances of the applicant and the decision of the immigration authorities of the country.
to 6 months
Visa validity period
The period during which the visa remains valid and can be used for entry into the country. The validity period or expiration date is indicated directly on the visa itself.
If the application for a Work Permit for migrant worker is approved, ICA will issue an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter to the foreigner. The visa is automatically included in the IPA letter. Entry into Singapore can be made by presenting the IPA letter at the immigration checkpoint, where a Visit Pass will be granted. The IPA is valid for a limited period (usually up to 6 months from the date of issuance), during which entry and completion of the registration process must take place.
to 2 years
Duration of stay
The maximum duration for which one is permitted to stay in the country continuously from the date of entry.
The candidate should present their IPA letter to the immigration office, where they will be granted a Visit Pass. Within 6 months of validity of in-principle approval (IPA) the foreigner must complete any required medical examinations, get the pass issued and receive a notification letter stating whether registration is required. The maximum validity period usually lasts up to 2 years, but it is limited to the shortest duration among the following factors: the worker’s passport validity, the duration of the security bond, and the length of the employment contract.
to 2 years
Extension of stay
The extension of the maximum duration of stay in the country initially permitted by the visa, subject to approval by the immigration authorities. This is typically processed within the country without the need for departure.
The Work Permit extension is generally valid for up to 2 years, but the duration may be shorter depending on several factors: - the expiry date of the worker’s passport; if the passport expires in less than 2 years, the permit will be valid until 1 month before the passport’s expiry date; - the validity period of the security bond; if it is less than 26 months, the permit will be valid until 2 months before the security bond expires; - the validity of the prior approval, if applicable; - the maximum employment period allowed for workers in the specific sector.
multiple-entry
The ability to enter and exit the country an unlimited number of times, unless otherwise specified, within the visa's validity period.
Number of entries
A parameter specifying the number of times the visa holder can enter the country during its validity period. Visas can be single-entry, multiple-entry, or with a specified number of entries.
The visa included in the In-Principle Approval (IPA) for this type of pass is a single-entry visa. It is intended for a one-time entry into Singapore to complete the Pass registration process and obtain the physical pass card, which is a long-term pass allowing multiple entries.
from 1 month to 2 months
Processing time
The period during which the immigration authorities review the application and make a decision regarding the issuance of the visa. Only business days are counted, excluding weekends and public holidays.
The process typically takes around 4 to 8 weeks (approximately 1 to 2 months), but it may be extended depending on various factors such as the employer’s financial standing, quota availability, salary compliance, and the candidate’s work experience. All foreign nationals, except for permanent residents and certain other categories, must complete the SG Arrival Card within 3 days before entering Singapore.
