The Schengen visa does not permit long-term residence or employment in Norway.

Visa validity period
The period during which the visa remains valid and can be used for entry into the country. The validity period or expiration date is indicated directly on the visa itself.
The consular authorities make a decision on the visa validity period based on the documentary evidence provided by the applicant, and it does not directly depend on the applicant. - The first Schengen visa is usually issued for up to 6 months considering the individual situation of the applicant, the requested duration, the specific purpose of the visit, and documentary evidence. - 2-year multiple visa may be issued to an applicant who has held and used at least two Schengen visas for up to 6 months during the previous two years, provided that visa requirements are met - 5-year multiple visa may be issued to an applicant who has previously had a visa for 2 years and used it in full compliance with the rules.

Duration of stay
The maximum duration for which one is permitted to stay in the country continuously from the date of entry.
The stay period for a specific visa is determined by the consulate depending on the individual situation of the applicant and documentary evidence of the purpose of the visit. The maximum permitted stay is up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Each day of stay is counted as part of all the previous 180 days starting from the current date. During this 180 day period, the total duration of stay must not exceed 90, regardless of the number of entries. For example, after entering the Schengen area and staying continuously for 90 day, the next entry can't be made earlier than 90 days later. It doesn't matter whether the visa free regime or a Schengen visa is used for entry - the rule applies to the person and not to specific visas or visa free regimes.
6 months
Extension of stay
The extension of the maximum duration of stay in the country initially permitted by the visa, subject to approval by the immigration authorities. This is typically processed within the country without the need for departure.
An extension is only possible in exceptional cases, if serious circumstances arise that make it impossible to leave the Schengen Area before the expiration of the authorized stay or the visa validity period.
single-entry
The possibility of entering the country only once during the visa's validity period. After departure from the country with such a visa, re-entry is not possible, even if the visa's validity period has not yet expired.
multiple-entry
The ability to enter and exit the country an unlimited number of times, unless otherwise specified, within the visa's validity period.
Number of entries
A parameter specifying the number of times the visa holder can enter the country during its validity period. Visas can be single-entry, multiple-entry, or with a specified number of entries.
The applicant specifies the required number of entries on the visa application; however, consulates make a decision, which may vary depending on provided documentary evidence and other factors. Visa may be issued for single or multiple entries.

Processing time
The period during which the immigration authorities review the application and make a decision regarding the issuance of the visa. Only business days are counted, excluding weekends and public holidays.
The normal handling time is 15 days; if there is a need for further investigation, it may take up to 45 days.

Consular fee
A fee levied for the processing and evaluation of an application. This charge is non-refundable under any circumstances. In certain instances, the payment of supplementary fees may be required.
Fees may be waived or vary depending on the applicant's nationality, marital status, age, and specific purpose of the visit. Visa fees are waived by all Schengen states for the following categories of people, regardless of their nationality: school pupils, university and doctoral students, and accompanying teachers travelling for study or educational purposes; researchers travelling for scientific research representatives of non-profit organisations; persons aged 25 or younger who will be attending seminars, conferences, sporting events, cultural events or educational events organised by non-profit organisations. EU Visa Facilitation Agreement countries and their citizens pay a lower fee (or no fee at all) to apply for a Schengen visa (Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia Herzegovina, Georgia, Cape Verde, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Ukraine). The consular fee is the official charge for processing an application by an embassy or consulate and does not include additional payments, such as fees for visa centers, permits or other documents, or postal or courier delivery.

Passport
Issued less than 10 years ago, with a validity period exceeding the duration of the visa by at least three months and with at least two blank pages.
Photograph
Must be recent (taken within the last 6 months), in color, clear, and sized 35x45mm. The face should occupy 70-80% of the image, printed on high-quality, matte paper with a plain, light background. Hair must not cover the eyes or eyebrows. Headwear is not permitted unless worn for religious or medical reasons, and the full face must remain visible.

Official Schengen visa application form, completely filled and signed by the applicant.
Proof of accommodation
Confirmed hotel booking, rental contract, proof of residential property or staying with a private host covering the whole duration of the stay.
Proof of transportation
Flight reservation, other proof of intended means of transport.

Proof of financial means
Recent bank statement for the last 3 months or any other proof of income. This document must demonstrate sufficient funds to support oneself for the entire stay and for return expenses. In cases of sponsorship by a host, an invitation letter with financial commitments and proof of the sponsor's income must also be provided.
Itinerary
Detailed day-to-day itinerary in Norwegian or English including travel dates, means of transport, activities, places to visit in Norway (and Schengen), tourist attractions and special events, if any. If group tours: Confirmation of the tour package and payments. Contact information of the travel agent and list of participants.

Travel health insurance
Valid for the entire Schengen area and the full duration of stay, covering at least €30,000, and include emergency medical care, hospitalization, and repatriation, including in case of death.
Current immigration or residence status
National passport or ID card; residence permit or other document confirming the right to legally reside in the country of residence, if it differs from the one stated in the applicant's passport.
Documents for minor children
Birth certificate, adoption certificate, or guardianship certificate evidencing parental or guardianship rights; certified power of attorney or permission from parents or legal guardians for minors traveling abroad.
Receipt of fee payment
Confirmation of the visa application processing fee.
Proof of return
Documents proving that applicant will return to the country of residence after the trip, e.g., an employment contract or education proof or children's school attendance proof or immovable property proof. Business owners must provide an original of the commercial registry and tax card.
Documents regarding the occupation of the applicant
Employee: a letter from the employer confirming position and salary, start and end dates of employment, and salary slips for the last 6 months. Pensioner: pension booklet. Individual entrepreneur: proof of economic activity, extract from trade/fiscal registry, or certificate for individual business. Pupil/student: proof of enrollment in school or university, or a student ID. Unemployed: a document proving the applicant's ties to their home country (i.e., vital statistics certificate, proof of property ownership), documentation showing where the applicant worked in the last 3 years, if applicable.
*Foreign official documents must be apostilled and legalized in accordance with the regulations of the country whose consular or diplomatic mission they are being submitted to. Additionally, they must be accompanied by a certified translation into the official language of that country or into English, unless otherwise specified by the mission's requirements.
