Visa overview
Description of the visa, its purpose, conditions, peculiarities of issuance, and guidelines for utilization.
Malaysia grants a 15-year visa for foreigners with a fixed deposit of at least RM 2 million (the minimum value of the property to be acquired must be at least RM 750,000). Half of the deposit can be used later on to buy a home, education or medicine. MM2H participants are required to spend a minimum of 60 days per year in Malaysia.
The primary characteristics that define the conditions for obtaining and using a visa. These conditions may vary depending on the individual circumstances of the applicant and the decision of the immigration authorities of the country.
to 6 months
Validity period
The period during which the visa remains valid and can be used for entry into the country. The validity period or expiration date is indicated directly on the visa itself.
Once the foreigner submits an application through a Malaysian agent to the Immigration Department for the MM2H long term multiple entry visa is approved, a conditional approval letter is issued. The conditional approval letter for Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) application usually gives the applicant 6 months (the exact period will be specified in the letter) to fulfill the conditions of the program such as entering Malaysia, opening a bank account, undergoing a medical examination and purchasing health insurance (if required). It is advisable to manage to enter the country within 3 months from the date of issuance of the letter. Within three days before entering Malaysia, all foreign nationals, except permanent residents and certain other categories of persons, are required to complete a Digital Arrival Card (MDAC). Once the MDAC is filled out, a confirmation email is sent to the applicant, which they need to show to the officer at passport control.
to 15 years
Length of stay
The maximum duration for which one is permitted to stay in the country continuously from the date of entry.
The maximum period of validity of the conditional approval letter is 6 months, during which time MM2H visa formalities such as entry, opening a fixed deposit in a Malaysian bank, undergoing a medical examination, taking out health insurance (for those under 60 years of age) and payment of visa fees must be completed. Once all the conditions are fulfilled, the applicant along with the agent needs to visit the Immigration Department where the MM2H multiple entry visa for up to 15 years is stamped into the passport.
Individually
Extension of stay
The extension of the maximum duration of stay in the country initially permitted by the visa, subject to approval by the immigration authorities. This is typically processed within the country without the need for departure.
After the expiration of the initial period, it is possible to extend the visa if the conditions are met (i.e. the required deposit amount or real estate is still held). The extension must be done through an agency, subject to the payment of additional fees.
multiple-entry
The ability to enter and exit the country an unlimited number of times, unless otherwise specified, within the visa's validity period.
Number of entries
A parameter specifying the number of times the visa holder can enter the country during its validity period. Visas can be single-entry, multiple-entry, or with a specified number of entries.
This visa entitles its holder to enter the country multiple times.
from 3 months to 6 months
Processing time
The period during which the immigration authorities review the application and make a decision regarding the issuance of the visa. Only business days are counted, excluding weekends and public holidays.
The total processing time for the MM2H visa typically ranges from 3 to 6 months, encompassing both the application review and the fulfillment of conditions after entering Malaysia. However, this timeframe may be prolonged in certain cases, particularly if the applicant is required to provide additional documentation.
