Allows close relatives of Japanese citizens or residents to travel to Japan for up to 90 days per entry upon invitation and proof of kinship.
The primary characteristics that define the conditions for obtaining and using a visa. These conditions may vary depending on the individual circumstances of the applicant and the decision of the immigration authorities of the country.
3 months
Validity period
The period during which the visa remains valid and can be used for entry into the country. The validity period or expiration date is indicated directly on the visa itself.
The validity period of a Japanese single-entry visa is the timeframe during which the applicant must enter the country; the visa holder has the right to enter Japan at any time before its expiration. The decision regarding the visa's validity period is made by the consulate based on the documentary evidence provided by the applicant and is not directly determined by the applicant. The validity period of a single-entry visa is usually three months. Upon entry into Japan, a Landing Permission stamp is placed by a Japanese immigration officer, which activates the visa. This stamp serves as the legal basis for a foreigner's stay in Japan.
from 15 days to 3 months
Length of stay
The maximum duration for which one is permitted to stay in the country continuously from the date of entry.
Upon arrival in Japan, when crossing the border at an airport or seaport, a Landing Permission stamp is placed by a Japanese immigration officer, and the visa is effectively replaced by this stamp. This stamp serves as the legal basis for a foreigner’s stay in Japan. It indicates the “period of stay,” which is the length of time a foreign national is permitted to remain in Japan. Immigration officers at ports of entry have broad discretion in determining the length of stay for incoming foreign nationals. The period of stay granted may be up to 15 days, 30 days, or 90 days from the date of entry. The decision depends on various factors, including the nationality and purpose of the visit.
from 1 day to 6 months
Extension of stay
The extension of the maximum duration of stay in the country initially permitted by the visa, subject to approval by the immigration authorities. This is typically processed within the country without the need for departure.
If a foreign national wishes to stay in Japan for a longer period, they must apply for an extension of stay at the regional immigration bureau before the initial period of stay expires. The length of the extension depends on the individual circumstances of the applicant. Generally, the maximum extension period is up to three months. However, an extension request may be denied.
single-entry
The possibility of entering the country only once during the visa's validity period. After departure from the country with such a visa, re-entry is not possible, even if the visa's validity period has not yet expired.
Number of entries
A parameter specifying the number of times the visa holder can enter the country during its validity period. Visas can be single-entry, multiple-entry, or with a specified number of entries.
Typically, this short-term visa allows one entry into the country.
from 4 days to 10 days
Processing time
The period during which the immigration authorities review the application and make a decision regarding the issuance of the visa. Only business days are counted, excluding weekends and public holidays.
The standard review period, in the absence of problems with the content of the application, is four working days from the day following the date of acceptance of the application. However, this period may be extended in individual cases, especially when additional documents are required from the applicant.
