Description of the visa, its purpose, conditions, peculiarities of issuance, and guidelines for utilization.
Issued to a spouse, registered or cohabiting partner, or a child under the age of 18 of a person who has been granted a residence and work permit in Greenland. The applicant must provide proof of relationship, financial means, and confirmed accommodation.

Validity period
The period during which the visa remains valid and can be used for entry into the country. The validity period or expiration date is indicated directly on the visa itself.
A residence permit is normally valid for the same period as the family member's who is in Greenland (the sponsor) permit. However, the period cannot exceed 1 year. Once a residence permit is approved, the applicant if their nationality requires a visa to enter Greenland, should apply for a national entry visa (D visa) with a maximum validity of 180 days. The exact period of validity is determined by the consulate and is not directly dependent on the applicant. Citizens of visa-free countries can enter Greenland for long-term residence with a passport and a letter of approval of residence permit. Upon arrival in Greenland, the applicant must receive a residence permit card.

A national entry visa is issued as a visa sticker in the passport that allows entry into Greenland within 180 days for the purpose of taking up the approved residence permit. The typical validity of a Greenlandic residence permit is up to 1 year from the date of issuance.

Normal processing time is 3 months. An entry visa is issued together with it if the applicant's nationality requires a visa to enter Greenland.
