from 1 month to 5 years
Validity period
The period during which the visa remains valid and can be used for entry into the country. The validity period or expiration date is indicated directly on the visa itself.
The validity period of a Chinese visa is calculated from the date of issue until the expiration date indicated on the visa. The visa holder has the right to enter China at any time before the visa expires (entry into China is permitted even before 24:00 hours of the last date of validity), provided that the permitted entries under the visa have not been used up. The decision on the validity period of a visa is made at the consulate and does not depend directly on the applicant. - The first Chinese visa is usually issued for a period of up to 3 months, taking into account the individual situation of the applicant, nationality, requested period, specific purpose of visit and documentary justification. - A multiple-entry visa for a period of 2 years can be issued to an applicant who has held and used at least two Chinese visas for up to 6 months in the previous two years, provided that the visa requirements are met. - If the applicant has obtained one multiple-entry visa valid for two years or more from the Chinese embassy or consulate and has visited China at least three times a year in the past two years, he or she may apply for a five-year multiple-entry visa. - For citizens of certain countries, there is an arrangement that an applicant who has obtained a five-year multiple-entry visa from the Chinese embassy or consulate may apply for a ten-year multiple-entry visa.
1 month
Length of stay
The maximum duration for which one is permitted to stay in the country continuously from the date of entry.
As a rule, such a visa allows staying in the territory of the PRC for up to 30 days. However, if the applicant provides consular officials with sufficient supporting documentation, and if they have a positive tourist biography in China, the period of stay can reach a maximum of 180 days.
from 1 day to 6 months
Extension of stay
The extension of the maximum duration of stay in the country initially permitted by the visa, subject to approval by the immigration authorities. This is typically processed within the country without the need for departure.
Single-entry visas issued for less than 180 days can be extended upon presentation of documents confirming the need for visa extension. This procedure can also be carried out only once. Foreign nationals who need to continue their stay in China after the visa expires must apply for visa extension at the Entry and Exit Reception Office of the Public Security Bureau no later than 7 days before the visa expires.
single-entry
The possibility of entering the country only once during the visa's validity period. After departure from the country with such a visa, re-entry is not possible, even if the visa's validity period has not yet expired.
Double-entry
The ability to enter the country only twice during the visa's validity period. This is typically used for transit visas and when multiple entries are required within a short timeframe, such as during travel to multiple countries.
multiple-entry
The ability to enter and exit the country an unlimited number of times, unless otherwise specified, within the visa's validity period.
Number of entries
A parameter specifying the number of times the visa holder can enter the country during its validity period. Visas can be single-entry, multiple-entry, or with a specified number of entries.
When applying for a Chinese visa, all applicants fill in the proposed number of entries to Mainland China, based on personal travel plans: 1 entry (within 3 months), 2 entries (valid for 3–6 months) and multiple entries (for 6 months or 1 year or more) and special remarks in the Chinese visa application form. The visa officer at the embassy/consulate will decide on the number of entries after reviewing the application materials and the intended purpose of travel to Mainland China.
from 4 days to 8 days
Processing time
The period during which the immigration authorities review the application and make a decision regarding the issuance of the visa. Only business days are counted, excluding weekends and public holidays.
Visa processing usually takes four working days if all supporting documents meet the requirements. But in some special cases where additional documentation is required, the processing time may be extended. Usually, if there is an urgent need for travel, the applicant can request expedited processing by submitting supporting documents. The processing time will be 2–3 working days (additional fees apply). The time and cost may vary depending on the specific consulate/embassy/visa center.
