The primary characteristics that define the conditions for obtaining and using a visa. These conditions may vary depending on the individual circumstances of the applicant and the decision of the immigration authorities of the country.

Validity period
The period during which the visa remains valid and can be used for entry into the country. The validity period or expiration date is indicated directly on the visa itself.
Valid for up from 1 month to 5 years, depending on the purpose of stay. Visa-required foreign nationals must obtain for a temporary resident visa (TRV) to travel to Canada as students.The expiry date on the TRV is the date by which the visa must be used to seek admission into Canada. If the visa is not used on or before that date, it ceases to be valid. The validity date is not the suggested duration of the visit. At the port of entry examination, officers determine the length of time temporary residents are authorized to stay in Canada.

Length of stay
The maximum duration for which one is permitted to stay in the country continuously from the date of entry.
The duration of a person’s visit to Canada is not determined by the Visa Officer. The Border Services Officer who examines the foreign national upon entry will determine the duration of the visit. Border Services Officers will routinely grant entry for a period of 6 months (180 days), even where the person requests entry for only a very brief period. But a person may apply to extend their status as a temporary resident in Canada beyond the initial period granted for their stay by the officer at the port of entry.

The extension of the maximum duration of stay in the country initially permitted by the visa, subject to approval by the immigration authorities. This is typically processed within the country without the need for departure.
To extend the staying in Canada as a visitor, foreigner need to apply for a visitor record. This document allows remaining in Canada longer and includes a new expiry date, which is the latest date by which a foreigner must leave the country. It's crucial to note that a visitor record is not a visa; it simply maintains the status as a visitor in Canada. The immigration officer makes a decision on extending the period individually in each specific case.

Passport
Must be valid for the duration of the staying in Canada and have at least two blank pages.
Proof of financial mean
Must demonstrate sufficient funds to support oneself for the entire stay in Canada and for return expenses (bank statement, pay stubs, or proof of employment).
Proof of accommodation
A copy of hotel reservation, rental contract, or letter from friends/family in Canada.
Visa application form
Completely filled out.
Photograph
Taken within the past six months, meeting the requirements of the visa application photograph specifications. Usually it is required to submit two photos, on the back of which need to write the name and date of. birth.
Documents that specify, substantiate, and confirm the purpose of the visit, as well as provide necessary information about the applicant and their future activities in the country.
Letter of acceptance
Must be issued by the Canadian institution (e.g. school board, school district, University, etc.) on official letterhead, show the exact amount of tuition fees applicant are required to pay, the anticipated starting and finishing dates, and the date by which applicants need to register.
Certificate d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ)
If applicable. The Application for a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) for studies is intended for foreign nationals who wish to stay in Quebec to study there.
Custodian declaration (minor children)
If applicable. If the minor requires a custodian, applicant must include the Custodianship Declaration form (IMM 5646). The custodian in Canada must sign the first page, and the parents or legal guardians of the minor child in the child’s home country must sign the second page.
Letter of explanation
With explanations why applicant wants to study in Canada and conformation of the understanding responsibilities as a student.
Job offer letter or internship agreement
Or another document confirming the need to work during the study period.

Documents for minor children
Birth certificate or other documents, such as adoption papers or a custody decree; original letter of notarized consent for the minor to travel abroad from parents / legal guardian.
Itinerary
Documents that show how long applicant plans to stay and what will do in Canada, such as flight details or registration for an event.
Family information
Each applicant who is 18 years of age or older must complete this form.
Use of a representative
Family members or third parties who apply on behalf of the applicant need to complete this form. If applicable.
Travel history
Includes copies of previous visas in a passport.
Authority to release personal information to a designated individual

Marriage certificate
Or another document confirming relationship or guardianship. If applicable.
Current immigration or residence status
National passport or ID card; visa, residence permit or other supporting document confirming resident status if the country of residence is different from that listed in applicant's passport.
Registration documents
For companies, schools, businesses and organizations inviting the applicant.
Receipt of fee payment
Confirmation of the visa application processing fee.
Certificate of criminal record
Confirming no criminal record in the applicant’s home or residence country.
Old passport
With visas for the last 5 years.
